If you’re like my wife and me, you like to travel. Actually, if you’re like us, you like to travel a lot. A whole lot.
I grew up traveling. Actually, it’s more accurate to say I grew up moving. I seldom spent an entire school year in one school. By my best count, I’ve lived in at least 38 places, most of those before I graduated from high school. I’m sure I missed some. The truth is, there are so many that I lose track. I do know that joining the military and spending 3 to 4 years in a single place was like putting down roots. That’s a lot of moving!
You might think that with all that moving, I’d hate to travel. But, it’s really just the opposite. I love to travel. From the planning to the packing and to the actual going and then experiencing the next place, travel is a great adventure to me. Maybe it’s because I moved so much as a child. All I know for sure is that I’m addicted. It doesn’t much matter how far, I just like to go and do.
That’s what this blog is all about. Going. Seeing some place other than home. It may be classically exotic and exciting or boringly pedestrian. It doesn’t matter. If it’s a chance to go somewhere other than where I am, I’m probably game. That’s not the same as wanting to move. While my wife and I are making plans for our eventual retirement, I’m not really interested in a bunch of moving, anymore. But, the travel? Yeah, that’s the stuff. It doesn’t hurt that travel feeds more or less directly into some of my other passions – motorcycles, boats, cooking, fishing, reading, gardening and guitars.
So, if you’re like me, I hope you’ll join me as I write about my traveling around. Some of this will be memories of old travels, but most of it will be an up-to-date blogging about traveling my wife and I are doing these days. Be prepared, though, there’ll also be the inevitable “thoughts on life” type posts, too. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I just saw something on the Travel Channel…
NOTE: My name is Ken. So, why “retiredmustang62?” A mustang, in military speak, is an enlisted person who decides, for no good reason, to join “the Dark Side” and become a commissioned officer. When I started my first blog, Retired Mustang (since I am one) was the name I used for both the blog and for my name (I’m not the first one, so I added my birth year to differentiate me from the “original” and his blog). With this blog, I saw no reason to open another account with wordpress, so if I sign posts (I probably won’t), I might sign them as “Ken” or as “RM” but either way, they come from me.
